Legendary Bangladeshi actress Bobita has announced plans to build a mosque on her ancestral land in Jashore, aiming to leave a lasting contribution to her community as she enters a reflective phase of her life. The national award-winning star recently visited the site in Bijoynagar alongside her sisters, the renowned actresses Suchanda and Champa, to finalize the location for the project.

Describing the initiative as a spiritual calling, Bobita expressed a profound sense of peace in being able to dedicate her resources to such a cause. She emphasized that the endeavor stems from a desire to perform a meaningful act of public service before her lifetime concludes. The actress plans to commission a formal architectural design for the structure soon, with construction slated to follow in phases.

Bobita, born Farida Akhter Popy, remains one of the most celebrated figures in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. Her career began in 1968 as a child artist in the Zahir Raihan film “Sangsār” under the name Suborna. She later rose to national prominence after Raihan cast her in “Jalte Suraj Ke Niche,” bestowing upon her the stage name Bobita. Over a prolific career spanning more than 300 films, including internationally acclaimed works such as “Ashani Sanket,” “Dohon,” and “Dipu Number Two,” she established herself as an enduring icon of the silver screen.

Her commitment to service follows a recent trend among prominent figures in the local film industry to invest in community welfare. Fellow actress Rozina recently garnered widespread acclaim for constructing a 10-domed mosque in her hometown, designed in a distinctive Turkish architectural style.
