Kangana Ranaut Responds to Comment About Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has publicly championed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, strongly condemning social media users who body-shamed the former Miss World over her appearance at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Ranaut, known for her candid remarks, criticized what she termed “misogynistic” comments, asserting that a woman’s style is a form of self-expression and not meant to please others.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a perennial fixture at the prestigious film festival, once again captivated audiences and photographers on the French Riviera. Despite arriving in the final moments of the event, her striking all-white ensemble, complete with bold lip color, garnered significant attention, making her a standout presence on the red carpet.
While Rai Bachchan’s glamorous looks, including a “blue fairy” and “swan” aesthetic, earned widespread admiration on social media, she also became the target of online body-shaming. Despite the nearly 50-year-old actress radiating elegance, a segment of netizens reportedly hurled derogatory remarks, referring to her as “fat aunty.”
The wave of negative comments prompted a sharp response from Kangana Ranaut, who has a reputation for being an outspoken critic of sexism and online trolls. Unfazed by potential backlash, Ranaut frequently uses her platform to challenge what she perceives as unfair societal expectations and misogynistic attitudes, a pattern she maintained in defense of Rai Bachchan.
Taking to social media, Ranaut posted a defiant message, stating, “Fashion and style are mediums of self-expression. They reflect one’s life philosophy and attitude. A woman is never obligated to prove herself to anyone.” She further asserted, “She (Aishwarya) didn’t walk the Cannes red carpet to please anyone. She is unique; in a word, extraordinary. Those who are not accustomed to seeing middle-aged women on the red carpet should change their perspective. Thank you.”
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended the festival as a global brand ambassador for a renowned cosmetics company. Her various looks, from a pink silk chiffon gown to a “royal sapphire glam” ensemble, were widely celebrated. This year also marked the red carpet debut for her 14-year-old daughter, Aaradhya, who accompanied her mother.
