Indian television actress Aditi Sharma files domestic abuse case against husband and in-laws

Popular Hindi television actress Aditi Sharma has filed a formal complaint with the Goregaon police in Mumbai, accusing her husband and his family of physical and mental abuse. The legal action, initiated on July 31, targets her husband, Abhinandan Kaushik, as well as her mother-in-law, Urmila Kaushik, and sister-in-law, Kirti Kaushik.

In her detailed statement to law enforcement, Sharma alleged a pattern of systematic domestic abuse that began shortly after her marriage. The actress stated that she endured frequent physical assaults, verbal degradation, and character assassination. Furthermore, she accused the family of misappropriating her personal jewelry, including gold chains, rings, and diamond ornaments, which she claims her mother-in-law refused to return despite repeated requests.

The couple’s relationship began in June 2021 when they met during an online acting workshop. Their professional acquaintance blossomed into a romantic relationship, leading them to move into a shared apartment in Goregaon West in September 2024. With the consent of both families, they were married on November 12, 2024.

According to Sharma, the domestic environment deteriorated almost immediately following the wedding. She reported that her husband exerted excessive control over her attire and daily habits, while simultaneously demanding financial support from her rather than contributing to household expenses. Tensions reportedly escalated on January 1, 2025, following a dispute over coffee. Sharma alleged that her husband subsequently began monitoring her mobile phone and accusing her of infidelity, ultimately forcing her to sleep in a separate room.

The actress further alleged that her husband and his family actively isolated her from her own parents, forbidding her from maintaining contact. She asserted that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law consistently fueled the conflict by siding with her husband and subjecting her to sustained psychological distress. Police have launched an investigation into the allegations, and the case remains under active review.
