Actor Bapparaj has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, ending weeks of speculation regarding his participation in the upcoming leadership election. The move, confirmed by both the actor and his intended running mate, actress Rumana Islam Mukti, marks a significant shift in the electoral landscape for the organization’s 2026-28 term.

Mukti disclosed that she was informed of the decision via a text message sent by Bapparaj on Wednesday. Following his withdrawal, she has begun the search for a new candidate to lead their joint panel. Sources close to the actor indicated that personal commitments and scheduling conflicts have rendered him unable to pursue the presidency at this time, leading him to abandon his campaign plans.

The leadership transition follows the conclusion of the previous executive committee’s term, led by Misha Sawdagor and Monowar Hossain Dipjol, which officially ended on April 24. Under the association’s constitutional mandate, a new election must be conducted within three months of the committee’s expiration. As the deadline approaches, other prospective candidates are actively maneuvering to finalize their panels and build support among the membership.
