Accident during construction of stage for Shakira’s concert in Brazil, workers killed

A construction worker has died in a horrific accident while preparing the stage for pop star Shakira’s upcoming concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The accident happened last Sunday afternoon during the construction of the infrastructure for this huge concert called ‘Todo Mundo no Rio’ organized on the Copacabana beach.
The organizing body and the local fire brigade have confirmed the truth of this shocking news.
The organizer said in a statement on Instagram that the worker was seriously injured due to a mechanical failure during the installation of the stage structure. The first aid team at the scene tried to assist him and he was rushed to the hospital in a fire brigade ambulance. However, all efforts of the doctors failed and he died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Eyewitness Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, 51, said there was a sudden rush on the beach and they saw a huge structure collapse. When a person is pinned down, others present try to pull him out.
State fire officials said the worker’s lower body was severely damaged after being crushed under the lifting system. Colleagues rescued him from under the machine before firemen arrived. Miguel Couto was pronounced dead after being taken to the Municipal Hospital.
Shakira has been confirmed as the main attraction at the annual Copacabana beach bash, as announced by Rio de Janeiro’s mayor. Earlier, millions of tourists gathered to listen to the music of world famous stars in various concerts organized at this place.
After this tragic incident, the organizing authorities have expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and the concerned organizations and promised to provide them with the necessary assistance.
However, as a result of this accident, there has been no official announcement about whether there will be any change in the scheduled concert schedule. Investigators are looking into whether there were any malfunctions in staging equipment or safety lapses. This incident cast a shadow of mourning on the entire Rio de Janeiro.
