Dhaka Man Stabbed to Death in Jurain Over Suspected Drug Dispute

A 50-year-old vegetable vendor was fatally stabbed in the Jurain area of Dhaka late Thursday night, prompting a police investigation into a suspected dispute among associates. Abdul Kuddus, a native of Shibchar in Madaripur, was attacked at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the neighborhood’s Nabarun Alley.

According to his mother, Ranu Begum, Kuddus was socializing outside a local tea stall when a group of men suddenly confronted him and inflicted multiple stab wounds before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians shortly before midnight.

Preliminary investigations by the Kadamtali Police Station suggest that the attack may have stemmed from internal friction among a group of acquaintances. Sub-Inspector Sohel Rana stated that while the primary line of inquiry focuses on a personal dispute, authorities are keeping the investigation broad to determine if other factors played a role in the homicide.

The victim’s landlord, Kamal Shikdar, offered further insight into the potential motive, noting that Kuddus had been involved in a heated disagreement about a week prior with two local men identified as Monir and Firoze. According to Shikdar and other local accounts, the tension arose after Kuddus allegedly voiced opposition to the suspects’ involvement in local drug trafficking activities.

Kuddus, a father of two daughters, had been living in a rented home in Jurain. Police continue to search for the suspects as they work to confirm the sequence of events leading to the fatal confrontation.
