Three Bangladesh Air Force Personnel Killed in Road Accident Honored with Military Funeral in Dhaka

The Bangladesh Air Force held military funerals and honor parades for three airmen who died in a road accident near the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The solemn ceremonies took place on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the C-130 hangar of the Bir Uttam AK Khandaker Air Force Base in Kurmitola, Dhaka Cantonment.
The victims were identified as Warrant Officer Sultan Mahmud, Corporal Moniruzzaman Piyas, and Leading Aircraftman Md. Zubaidul Islam.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Monday, when a jeep carrying seven Air Force personnel, who were deployed for Quick Response Force (QRF) duties, was involved in a crash near the airport’s Third Terminal. Four other personnel sustained serious injuries in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
The funeral services were attended by Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman. Following the prayers, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, laid wreaths on the coffins of the deceased to pay his respects. The ceremony was also attended by the victims’ families, former chiefs of the Air Force, high-ranking government officials, and senior military personnel.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate stated that after the funeral proceedings, the bodies were transported to the victims’ respective home districts. A delegation from the Air Force will oversee the burials with full military honors. The Bangladesh Air Force expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
The ISPR noted that since August 5, 2024, personnel from the Bangladesh Air Force have been deployed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and other critical national airports under the “In Aid to the Civil Power” mandate. They have been tasked with maintaining law and order, ensuring passenger safety, and securing airport operations.
