US Ambassador Peter Haas Highlights US-Bangladesh Rail Partnership During Inaugural Train Journey in Northern Bangladesh

United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen completed his first-ever train journey in the country on Tuesday, highlighting the long-standing technological partnership between the two nations in the railway sector.
The Ambassador traveled by train from the Parbatipur railway workshop in Dinajpur to the Syedpur railway station in Nilphamari. Following the trip, Christensen lauded the experience and emphasized the role of American technology in the modernization of Bangladesh Railway. He noted that the locomotive used for his journey was manufactured by Progress Rail, a leading U.S.-based company.
During his visit to the Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur, the Ambassador praised the dedication of local engineers and technicians. He observed that American-made locomotives have been providing consistent service to the country for many years, a testament to the effective maintenance performed by the local workforce. Christensen stated that the partnership between the two nations combines high-quality U.S. technology with the diligence of Bangladeshi experts. He expressed optimism that American firms, including Progress Rail and Wabtec, would continue to strengthen their collaboration with Bangladesh in the future.
The Ambassador’s visit to the northern region included several cultural and historical sites. Accompanied by his wife, Dean Dao, he visited the Lokayan Museum, the historic Chini Masjid, and a local Catholic church. The delegation also toured the Syedpur Railway Workshop and museum.
Christensen was joined by U.S. embassy officials, including Nicole Clarissa Besnard, Syed Faizus Salehin, and Firoz Ahmed. Local administrative and law enforcement officials, including Syedpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farah Fatiha Takmila and Divisional Superintendent of the Syedpur Railway Factory Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, were present to receive the delegation.
The Ambassador is scheduled to depart from Syedpur Airport for Dhaka on Tuesday evening, concluding his three-day tour of the region.
