Suspect and Family Attack Police Officers During Arrest Attempt in Boalkhali

BOALKHALI, CHITTAGONG — Three police officers and two civilians were injured late Sunday night when an attempt was made to forcibly rescue a suspect from police custody in the Charandeep area of Boalkhali Upazila.

The incident occurred around midnight near the Masjid Ghat area as officers from the Boalkhali Police Station were executing an arrest warrant. According to police, the suspect, identified as Mohiuddin of Shikdarpara in North Kaldega, had been named in a criminal complaint filed by a local resident, Abdul Mannan.

Police reported that after officers apprehended Mohiuddin and secured him in handcuffs, the suspect and his relatives initiated a violent struggle. During the altercation, the suspect and his family members allegedly bit and scratched the officers. Amid the chaos, Mohiuddin briefly managed to escape but was apprehended by police a short distance away.

The injured officers have been identified as Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim, Assistant Sub-Inspector Masum Billah, and Constable Hasanuzzaman. They received emergency medical treatment at the Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex for their injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Boalkhali Police Station, Mozaffar Hossain, confirmed the incident and stated that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack on law enforcement, including one relative of the suspect who is a member of the village police, Jabbar Hossain.

The arrested individuals have since been presented before a court and remanded to prison custody. Investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
