Authorities conduct dope tests on suspects in Rangpur quadruple murder case inside prison due to security risks

RANGPUR — Authorities have conducted drug tests on Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, the two primary suspects in the murder of four members of a single family in Rangpur, by collecting biological samples inside the central jail to avoid security risks and potential public unrest.
A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of police, accompanied by a technologist and an assistant from the Rangpur Medical College Hospital laboratory, visited the Rangpur Central Jail at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The samples were collected following a court order, according to Inspector Jinnat Ali, the lead investigator of the case.
Deputy Commissioner of the Rangpur Metropolitan Detective Branch, Sanatan Chakraborty, confirmed that the decision to conduct the tests inside the prison was made to prevent potential security breaches or mob attacks that could have occurred if the suspects were transported to the hospital. The medical college authorities were requested to dispatch staff to the prison to facilitate the testing, which aims to determine if the suspects were under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.
The technologist from the hospital, Mohammad Ashraf, confirmed that the collected samples were subsequently transported to the laboratory for formal analysis.
The investigation into the murders began on the night of August 22, when police discovered the bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, a 65-year-old retired teacher from Rangpur Zilla School, his 50-year-old wife Priti Lata Chakraborty, their 25-year-old daughter Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, and their 12-year-old son Ayush Chakraborty, a fifth-grade student, at their residence in Mashuapara. Forensic reports indicated that all four victims were strangled to death.
Following the discovery, Ganapati Chakraborty’s brother, Gopinath Chakraborty, filed a murder case at the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station. Police subsequently arrested Mugdha Das, son of Kanu Das, and Siddhartha Das, son of Binay Das. Both suspects have since provided confessional statements to the court, admitting to the killings. Investigators allege that the suspects had consumed narcotics prior to carrying out the murders. The two men remain in custody at the Rangpur Central Jail.
