Police Arrest Over 195000 Individuals in Nationwide Security Crackdown Since May

Law enforcement authorities in Bangladesh have arrested 53,518 individuals during a nationwide special operation conducted between May 1 and August 26. The crackdown also resulted in the seizure of a significant cache of firearms, ammunition, illicit narcotics, and bomb-making materials.
According to a press release issued by Police Headquarters on Thursday, the operation led to the recovery of 438 firearms, 4,722 rounds of ammunition, 165 magazines, 65 cocktails, and over two kilograms of gunpowder. Authorities also seized 893 improvised weapons, 71 firearm components, 21 items related to the manufacture of weapons and explosives, and 10,300 firecrackers.
The confiscated firearm inventory includes 153 pistols, 48 shooter guns, 45 light guns, 26 revolvers, 108 shotguns, 26 pipe guns, 7 rifles, 3 submachine guns, 12 air guns, and one pen gun.
In addition to the 53,518 arrests made during the special operation, police detained an additional 141,628 individuals across various other criminal investigations during the same period. The total number of arrests recorded between May 1 and August 26 stands at 195,146.
The police report further detailed extensive narcotics seizures, including 14,054,559 Yaba tablets, 10,732 packets of heroin, and 30,427 bottles of Phensedyl. Authorities also recovered 13,865 bottles of foreign liquor, 560 bottles of local spirits, and 12,053 packets of cannabis, alongside various other illicit drug-related substances.
