Humayun Kabir and Shama Obaid Islam assigned ministerial roles to assist Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially delineated the responsibilities of newly appointed state ministers Humayun Kabir and Shama Obaed Islam, who will assist Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in his official duties.
The division of labor was confirmed in a ministry circular issued on Sunday evening. According to the directive, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir will provide support to the Foreign Minister regarding bilateral and multilateral affairs, issues concerning non-resident Bangladeshis, and other portfolios specifically assigned by the Foreign Minister.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has been tasked with assisting the Foreign Minister in matters pertaining to the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, human rights, and research and innovation. Her portfolio further encompasses environmental and climate change issues, the creative economy, Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation, information and communication technology, maritime law and ocean resources, global health diplomacy, and cultural and sports diplomacy.
The current government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, assumed office on February 17 following the 13th national parliamentary election. Khalilur Rahman, who previously served as the National Security Advisor in the interim administration, was appointed as the Foreign Minister. Shama Obaed, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s international affairs committee, was initially appointed as a state minister, while Humayun Kabir previously served as the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor.
The structural changes follow the swearing-in of five new ministers and state ministers last Friday, during which Humayun Kabir was formally designated to his current role within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
