Thirteen Awami League members charged under Special Powers Act in Sunamganj sabotage case

Authorities in Sunamganj have filed a case against 13 individuals affiliated with the now-banned Awami League and its front organizations, accusing them of engaging in subversive activities. The lawsuit, which also names 20 to 25 unidentified suspects, was registered at Bishwambharpur Police Station late Thursday under the Special Powers Act.
The complaint was lodged by Sohag Talukdar, a resident of Sridharpur village. According to the case documents, the incident occurred on the morning of August 19 in the Rasulpur area of Salukabad Union along the Bishwambharpur-Sunamganj road. The plaintiff alleges that the suspects gathered with the intent to incite instability and commit acts of sabotage through a pre-planned procession.
Among those named in the First Information Report are District Awami League General Secretary Noman Bakht and District Chhatra League President Dipankar Kanti De. Other prominent suspects include Assistant Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Bishwambharpur Upazila Awami League Publication Secretary Md. Tayebur Rahman, party member Sagar Mia, Sadar Upazila Chhatra League General Secretary Safayet Jamil, as well as Sreepur Uttar Union Chhatra League Vice President Salman Mia and Assistant General Secretary Muktar Hossain Akhnji.
Bishwambharpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ahmad Ullah Bhuiyan confirmed the filing of the case on Friday. He stated that the legal process is currently underway to address the charges brought against the named individuals.
