Kurigram BNP celebrates Ruhul Kabir Rizvi appointment as acting secretary general with public sweets distribution

Supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Kurigram distributed sweets on Thursday to celebrate the appointment of Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as the party’s acting secretary general. The distribution took place between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. near the College Mor area of the district town, where local activists shared refreshments with pedestrians and rickshaw pullers.

The event was organized on behalf of Professor Shafiqul Islam, the senior joint convener of the Kurigram district unit of the BNP. Local party leaders were in attendance to oversee the distribution and mark the occasion.

Professor Shafiqul Islam stated that Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has played a significant role in party politics for a long time. He noted that the appointment has generated widespread enthusiasm among the party’s grassroots supporters in Kurigram, prompting them to share their joy with the general public. During the event, many residents expressed their appreciation to the central leadership, noting their pride in seeing a native of the district elevated to such a senior position.

The leadership change followed the formal resignation of Mirza Fakhrul Islam, who stepped down from his position as secretary general on Thursday following his election as President. In a press release issued on Thursday evening, the BNP announced that Rizvi, a member of the party’s National Standing Committee, was appointed as acting secretary general in accordance with Section 7(b)6 of the party’s constitution. The appointment took effect immediately.
