Chattogram Civil Surgeon Jahangir Alam Chowdhury Transferred Amid Administrative Reorganization

The Civil Surgeon of Chattogram, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has been transferred and appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Directorate General of Health Services in Mohakhali. The directive was issued on Wednesday by the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and confirmed by the Divisional Director of Health for Chattogram, Sekh Fazle Rabbi, on Thursday morning.
The transfer order, signed by Joint Secretary Saiful Islam of the Health Services Division, stated that the action was taken in the public interest. Under the same directive, Mohammad Sajedur Rahman, currently serving as the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer in Burichong, Cumilla, has been appointed as the new Civil Surgeon of Chattogram.
According to the ministry’s notification, the affected officials are required to join their new stations by August 24. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in an automatic “stand release” from their current positions, effective August 25.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was appointed as the Civil Surgeon of Chattogram in September 2024 following the change in political leadership. During his tenure, his office faced allegations of irregularities regarding a recruitment examination for 171 positions, including health assistant roles. At the time, Alam had formally denied these accusations.
Addressing the transfers, Divisional Director of Health Sekh Fazle Rabbi described the reshuffle as a routine administrative process. He noted that the orders were not limited to Chattogram, as similar directives involving OSD appointments for civil surgeons were issued for the Cumilla, Dhaka, and Mymensingh regions as well.
