Naogaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tarikul Islam detailed the case during a press conference on Thursday afternoon. According to the investigation, the victim lived alone while her husband and son resided in Comilla. Her routine of selling milk door-to-door led to an acquaintance and subsequent romantic relationship with Babul Hossain.

The victim had reportedly been pressuring Hossain to marry her. On Tuesday, acting on promises of marriage, the victim left her home to meet him. Police reports state that Hossain sent an accomplice to intercept her at Shahpur intersection, eventually transporting her to the Agradigun market area by 10 p.m.

The group then traveled by motorcycle and autorickshaw to a mango orchard in Talpukur Mahmudpur village. Investigators allege that under Hossain’s direction, Tareq Rahman and two other unidentified accomplices strangled the woman using a belt. To destroy evidence, the perpetrators covered the body with straw and set it ablaze using petrol.

Police discovered the charred remains in the orchard on Tuesday evening. Initially lacking leads, authorities utilized information technology and local intelligence to identify the suspects. Following a raid in Morail village on Wednesday night, officers arrested Hossain, whose testimony led to the subsequent capture of Tareq Rahman.

The victim’s husband has since filed a formal case. Police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the two remaining suspects who are believed to be involved in the murder.
