Four children drown in pond in Narayanganj Araihazar

Four children drowned in a pond in the Khanpara area of Duptara Union, located in the Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj, on Thursday evening.
The victims have been identified as 10-year-old Ojaifa, daughter of Al Amin; 12-year-old Afsa, daughter of Munna Mia; 8-year-old Riya Moni, daughter of Jahangir Alam; and 8-year-old Rubaiya, daughter of Md. Rakib. All four were local students.
Family members began searching for the children on Thursday afternoon after they failed to return home. Suspicion arose when the children’s footwear was discovered on the bank of a pond adjacent to Munna Mia’s residence. Following a search of the water, the four children were recovered and rushed to medical facilities by early evening. Two were transported to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, while the others were taken to a local clinic. Medical personnel at both facilities confirmed that all four children were dead upon arrival.
Dr. Shimul, an emergency department physician at the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the fatalities, stating that the victims had succumbed before reaching the hospital.
Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabjel Hossain stated that authorities inspected the scene on Thursday night. Preliminary investigations suggest that one child may have fallen into the water, and the others likely drowned while attempting a rescue. The victims’ families have not filed any formal complaints, and police are currently in the process of releasing the bodies to their respective families.
