Actress Shabnur sparks speculation with cryptic social media post amid renewed Salman Shah murder case inquiry

DHAKA — Iconic Dhallywood actress Shabnur has sparked public speculation after posting a cryptic message on social media amid renewed interest in the high-profile death case of her former co-star, Salman Shah.
In a Facebook post published on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the actress shared a series of photographs accompanied by a brief caption reading, “Falsehood is temporary, but truth is eternal.” While the statement did not explicitly reference the ongoing investigation into the death of Salman Shah, it has drawn significant attention from netizens given the historical narrative surrounding the late actor’s passing.
The controversy surrounding Salman Shah’s death has resurfaced following recent remarks by public prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqi. During a briefing on the case proceedings, Farooqi cited testimony from actor Don, alleging that Salman Shah had been incapacitated with chloroform and a lethal injection before being hanged from a ceiling fan to stage a suicide. According to the prosecutor, Don’s statement claimed that other individuals, including Samira and Aziz Mohammad Bhai, were present at the scene.
For years, rumors have persisted regarding Shabnur’s potential involvement in the events surrounding the actor’s death, with some social media users even calling for her arrest. However, the actress has consistently maintained a low profile regarding these allegations.
Public discourse surrounding the case has often intersected with the personal history of the two stars, who were considered one of the most successful on-screen pairings in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. They collaborated on 14 commercially successful films, including “Tumi Amar,” “Sujan Sokhi,” and “Ananda Ashru.”
Despite long-standing rumors of a romantic entanglement between the two during the 1990s, Shabnur has repeatedly asserted that she viewed Salman Shah as a brother. This sentiment was recently echoed by Salman Shah’s mother, Nila Chowdhury, who publicly stated that there was no romantic relationship between the two and that her son treated the actress as a sister.
While the legal investigation into the circumstances of the 1996 death continues, the actress’s social media activity has once again brought the case into the spotlight, highlighting the enduring public fascination with the tragedy that cut short the career of one of the country’s most popular actors.
