BRTC to Launch Dedicated Women-Only Bus Service in Dhaka on Tuesday

The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is set to launch a dedicated bus service exclusively for women this coming Tuesday. The service, featuring distinctive pink-colored buses, will be inaugurated at 10:00 a.m. at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot premises in Tejgaon.

The initiative is part of the government’s commitment to implementing its election manifesto. According to a press release issued by the BRTC on Sunday, the buses will be operated and staffed entirely by women, including drivers and conductors.

The inaugural ceremony will be headlined by Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam. State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Habibur Rashid will attend as a special guest, alongside Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Mohammad Ziaul Haque. The event will be presided over by BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla.

Officials stated that the primary objective of the project is to provide safe and comfortable public transportation for women while simultaneously expanding employment opportunities for them within the transport sector. Following the official launch, the buses will commence operations on designated routes.
