Three injured as armed robbers loot gold and cash in Manikganj Sadar Upazila

Three people were injured during an armed robbery in Manikganj Sadar Upazila late Friday, as assailants fired shots to create panic before fleeing with gold, silver, and cash. The incident occurred in the Purba Shanbanda area as a local jeweler and his son were returning home from their shop.
The victims have been identified as 72-year-old Patit Paban Shil, his 32-year-old son Prabir Kumar Shil, and their neighbor, 50-year-old Manoranjan Pal. All three are residents of Purba Shanbanda village.
According to police and local accounts, the robbery took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. as the father and son were traveling home. A group of three to four assailants intercepted them, striking both men with iron rods before seizing their belongings. When neighbor Manoranjan Pal responded to the victims’ cries for help, the attackers assaulted him as well. The group then fired shots into the air to deter bystanders and escaped the scene.
Prabir Kumar Shil stated that the bag stolen by the robbers contained approximately 60 bhori of silver, two ana of gold, and 85,000 taka in cash. His father, Patit Paban Shil, sustained severe head injuries during the assault.
Police arrived at the scene around 11:00 p.m. and transported the victims to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital. Patit Paban Shil remains hospitalized, while the other two victims received primary medical treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, Md. Monir Hossain, confirmed that officers recovered a spent cartridge casing from the site. Authorities are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspects. The victims’ family is in the process of filing a formal complaint, and the investigation remains ongoing.
