Two suspects remanded to jail in Dhaka following major filling station robbery case

A Dhaka court on Saturday ordered two suspects to be sent to jail in connection with an arms case filed at Jatrabari Police Station, following a high-profile robbery in which 12.125 million taka was stolen from a filling station employee in the capital’s Uttara area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order after the suspects, identified as Md. Rabiul Islam, alias Rubel, 34, and Mintu Rari, 23, were produced before the court. Sub-Inspector Mohinuddin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prosecution department confirmed the development.
The suspects were arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. Rabiul Islam was apprehended in the Kazla area under Jatrabari, while Mintu Rari was arrested in the Hazaribagh neighborhood. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Mohammad Zahirul Islam of the DB’s Lalbagh division requested the court to keep the suspects in custody to ensure a fair and impartial investigation. Police indicated that a petition for remand would be filed at a later stage for further interrogation.
According to police, the suspects are part of an organized criminal syndicate that frequently committed robberies in the capital and surrounding areas by impersonating law enforcement officials and utilizing illegal firearms. The arms case was initiated by Sub-Inspector Deb Kumar Acharya of the DB’s Kotwali zone, who reported that two pistols, three magazines, and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the duo.
The arrests follow a series of raids conducted across the capital on Friday night, which resulted in the apprehension of five individuals in total related to the robbery of the DL Filling Station on August 9. During the operation, police recovered a portion of the stolen funds, along with weapons and equipment, including walkie-talkies, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) vests, caps, badges, and handcuffs.
The original robbery case was filed at the Airport Police Station by Md. Abdul Karim, the manager of the DL Filling Station, against six to seven unidentified assailants for robbery and inflicting grievous injury on an employee. Another member of the syndicate, Sagar Baroi, 41, has been placed on a seven-day remand in connection with that case.
