Son arrested for allegedly murdering mother over drug money in Jhenaidah

A 38-year-old man was taken into police custody on Friday morning after allegedly murdering his mother in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah. The victim, 57-year-old Shokher Banu, was found with her throat slit inside her home in the West Para neighborhood of Shyamkur village.
Local residents apprehended the suspect, Ikhlasur Rahman, as he attempted to flee the scene following the incident. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
According to preliminary police reports, the suspect had a history of drug abuse. Investigators believe the killing stemmed from a recurring dispute over money, which the suspect frequently demanded from his mother to fund his drug habit. Witnesses stated that the pair had engaged in a heated argument regarding finances late Thursday night.
Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan confirmed that the suspect allegedly entered his mother’s bedroom early Friday morning and used a sharp weapon to carry out the attack.
Police recovered the victim’s body at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time. The suspect remains in custody as officials continue to process the scene and gather evidence for the ongoing investigation.
