Man dies after falling from train roof at Narsingdi railway station

A 26-year-old man was killed on Friday morning after falling between two carriages while attempting to climb down from the roof of the Titas Commuter train at Narsingdi Railway Station.
The victim, identified as Amir Hossain, was a resident of Nagar Baniadi in the Madhabdi area of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. He was the son of the late Samsul Haque.
According to witnesses and railway police, Hossain had traveled to the Kella Shah Shrine in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, with two friends on Thursday afternoon. On Friday morning, the group boarded the roof of the Titas Commuter train for their return trip due to severe overcrowding inside the carriages.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. as the train was departing Narsingdi station. Witnesses reported that as the train began to move, Hossain attempted to climb down from the roof. During the descent, his garment became entangled, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the gap between two carriages. The moving train dragged him for approximately 30 yards before he was recovered by bystanders.
Hossain was rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while in transit. Attending physicians at the hospital’s emergency department confirmed he was dead upon arrival.
Farida Gulshanara Kabir, the resident medical officer at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, stated that the victim was deceased when he was brought to the facility. The body was subsequently handed over to the railway police.
Akram Hossain, a friend who accompanied the victim, said they had opted to ride on the roof because the train was too crowded to board normally. He witnessed the incident as he had successfully climbed down from the roof just moments before his friend.
Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarkar of the Narsingdi Railway Police outpost confirmed the details of the accident. Following a formal request from the victim’s family, police released the body without conducting an autopsy.
