Two youths found dead on railway tracks in Gopalganj

KASHIANI, Gopalganj — Police recovered the bodies of two men from a railway track in the Kashiani Upazila of Gopalganj on Wednesday morning, following a suspected train accident.
The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Mehedi Sheikh, son of Babul Sheikh from Noyapara village, and 20-year-old Hasib Gazi, son of Shah Alam Gazi from Baukhola village. Both men were residents of Maheshpur Union.
The discovery was made near the residence of one Badsha Khan, adjacent to the Maheshpur railway station. Initial police investigations suggest that the pair was struck by the Dhaka-bound Rupsha Bangla Express train late Tuesday night, around 11:00 p.m.
Local residents reported that both men allegedly struggled with substance abuse. Khalil Molla, a resident of Maheshpur village, claimed that the two were frequently seen consuming narcotics near the tracks. He noted that remnants of mosquito coils were found at the scene on Wednesday morning, suggesting the men had been using the coils while stationary on the tracks.
Officer-in-Charge of Kashiani Police Station, Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman, stated that authorities believe the victims were killed by the passing train after 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Local villagers discovered the bodies at dawn on Wednesday and notified local law enforcement. The Kashiani police subsequently alerted the Rajbari Railway Police, who arrived at the scene to initiate formal recovery procedures and complete the necessary legal processes.
