In Nawabganj double murder case, one death sentence, 7 life sentences

The court has sentenced a man named Sheikh Nashir (48) to death for killing two people for the purpose of robbery in Nawabganj area of ​​Dhaka. At the same time, seven more people have been sentenced to life imprisonment in this case.

The accused who got life imprisonment are Noor Islam alias Noor Hossain Mollah (41), Saiful Alam Sheikh (47), Suman Sheikh (38), Babul Gazi (57), Sheikh Habibur Rahman alias Habi (67), Anwar Hossain Babu (39) and Al Amin (45). Each of them has been fined 50 thousand rupees.

According to the complaint source, on the night of May 23, 2019, the victims Sheikh Kalam and Zahid Khan left for their home from Bandura in Nawabganj. On the way, the accused attacked by blocking their car with the intention of robbery. Sheikh Kalam and Zahid Khan were seriously injured. Later, when they were taken to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared Kalam dead. Zahid also died on the way to Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Hospital for better treatment on doctor’s advice.

A case was filed in Nawabganj police station on May 25 of that year. After the investigation, the investigation officer submitted the charge sheet against eight people on January 21, 2021. During the trial of the case, the court took the testimony of 18 out of 37 witnesses.
