Police recover dismembered remains of customs officer in Mymensingh pond

Police in Mymensingh have recovered the dismembered remains of a customs security guard, nine days after he was reported missing from his home in Phulbaria. The body of 40-year-old Rakib Rayhan Talukdar, a constable with the customs security division at Dhaka’s Kamalapur station, was found cut into 15 pieces.
The discovery was made on Sunday afternoon during an intensive search operation in Soaitpur village, located in the Enayetpur Union. Officers recovered the remains from an abandoned pond near the victim’s residence, where the body parts had been wrapped in a bedsheet and concealed inside three separate bags.
According to family members and investigators, Rakib regularly traveled from his workplace in Dhaka to his home in Phulbaria every Thursday, typically returning to duty on Saturdays. He was last seen on July 23 after a final conversation with his elder brother, Nurul Islam. When Rakib failed to report for work on July 26 and remained unreachable by phone, his family became alarmed. A missing person report was filed with the Phulbaria police on the night of July 27.
The investigation has centered on the caretaker of Rakib’s residence, identified as Raju Mirza. Authorities noted that Mirza went missing on July 28, the day after the police report was filed. Police have since launched an effort to locate him, citing his sudden disappearance and the nature of the crime as key factors in their ongoing inquiry.
Phulbaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rashedul Hasan confirmed the grim details, stating that the victim had been brutally dismembered before being discarded in the pond. While the motive behind the murder remains under investigation, law enforcement officials are working to determine if other individuals were involved in the crime. Police continue to search for the primary suspect as they piece together the circumstances surrounding Rakib’s death.
