A graphic video circulating on social media, purportedly showing a child being abused by a teacher at a Bangladeshi madrasa, has been debunked as a misattributed clip of a domestic incident in Algeria. The 17-second footage, which sparked widespread outrage among Bangladeshi internet users, depicts an adult male striking and throwing a young boy, leading many to demand swift legal action against the individual.
The viral post, which gained traction after being shared with captions implying the incident occurred within a religious institution in Bangladesh, prompted intense scrutiny and public calls for authorities to intervene. Social media users expressed deep concern over the welfare of the child, with many emphasizing the necessity of identifying the location and time of the event to facilitate a police investigation.
However, fact-checking efforts have confirmed that the footage is unrelated to Bangladesh. According to a report by the Lebanon-based news outlet An-Nahar, the incident took place in the Mostaganem province of Algeria. The video was originally brought to public attention on July 5, 2025, by the Libyan digital media outlet “Zero,” which clarified that the individual seen in the video is the father of the child.
Reports indicate that the father was disciplining his son for harming a cat. The incident, which occurred within the privacy of their home, triggered significant controversy in Algeria after the footage was uploaded to the internet.
The circulation of the video within Bangladesh highlights the growing challenge of digital misinformation, as users frequently share graphic content without verifying its origin. Investigative findings confirm that the narrative linking the abuse to a Bangladeshi madrasa is entirely fabricated.
