Driver killed for looting 60 barrels of oil in Magura, body dumped in truck: Police

The police demanded to unravel the mystery behind the robbery of an edible oil truck worth around Tk 19 lakh and the killing of the driver in Magura. Four people have been arrested in this incident; Along with that, 45.5 barrels of oil, 7 empty barrels and 3 lakh 7 thousand 700 taka of oil sales have been recovered.
Superintendent of Police Mollah Azad Hossain gave this information in a press conference organized at the office of Superintendent of Police Magura on Monday afternoon. He said it was the work of a well-organized criminal gang. An operation is underway to arrest other absconding accused involved in this incident.
According to the police, on May 16, Gopal Saha, the owner of M/s Mahamaya Traders of Arpara Bazar of Shalikha Upazila of Magura, bought 60 barrels of edible oil worth Tk 19 lakh from a businessman in Dhaka. On May 18, around 10 pm, driver Abdur Rahman left for Magura with an oil-laden truck from Silo Ghat in Narayanganj. But the truck never reached its destination. The driver’s mobile phone was found switched off.
Two days after the disappearance, the truck was found abandoned on the side of the road in Khedpara area of Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah on the afternoon of May 20. Local people informed the police when foul smell came from inside the truck. Later, the police recovered the melted body of the driver Abdur Rahman from inside the truck. He is a resident of Rajarhat village of Kotwali police station in Jessore.
Based on the information provided by Azad Hussain, three others were arrested for allegedly buying stolen oil. They are Vikas Saha (30), Md. Abdur Quddus (50) and Haroon Or Rashid (48).
According to the police, analysis of the CCTV footage of Faridpur’s Kamarkhali area showed that the driver Abdur Rahman was not in the vehicle when the oil truck crossed. Another person was driving the truck. According to the police, the criminals took control of the truck by killing the driver at a secluded place on the Magura route from Dhaka.
Superintendent of Police Mollah Azad Hossain said, “This is an organized and brutal crime. Our cyber crime cell was able to unravel the mystery of the clue-less murder and recover the looted goods within 24 hours.
