Pedestrian killed by falling tree limb during Faridpur storm

A pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning in the Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur after a sudden kalbaishakhi (nor’wester) storm caused a tree branch to collapse onto him. The victim, 49-year-old Ziaur Rahman, a resident of Shariatpur Sadar, was struck while walking along the Pukuria-Sadarpur road near the Atroshi Jaker Filling Station at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Witnesses and local authorities reported that Rahman was en route to the Atroshi Darbar Sharif when the storm intensified. A large branch from a nearby gulmohar tree snapped in the high winds, striking him directly on the head and leaving him critically injured on the roadside.

His companion, Monir Hossain, and local residents rushed him to the nearby Bishwa Jaker Manzil General Hospital. Despite their efforts, medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Sub-Inspector Md. Alamgir Sharif of the Sadarpur Police Station responded to the scene to conduct an initial investigation and prepare an inquest report. According to the officer-in-charge, Abdullah Al Mamun Shah, police are currently working to notify the victim’s family. Authorities are moving forward with filing an unnatural death case at the Sadarpur Police Station.
