Faridpur man arrested for killing mother months after previous murder conviction

Police in Faridpur have arrested a 32-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 65-year-old mother, Samela Begum, following an investigation into a brutal domestic killing that occurred on Thursday. The suspect, Rahim Sheikh, was taken into custody at his aunt’s residence in the Laharpara village of the Saltha sub-district, approximately eight hours after the incident took place in the Abdur Rahman Molladanghi area of Faridpur municipality.
The victim, the widow of a local grocer, was allegedly attacked with a wooden club, sustaining fatal injuries to her head. Following the discovery of the crime, the victim’s eldest son, Shahin Sheikh, filed a murder case at the Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, naming his younger brother as the sole suspect.
Authorities indicated that Rahim Sheikh fled the scene immediately after the assault. His history of violence is documented; he was previously arrested a decade ago in connection with the murder of his stepmother, a crime for which he served six years in prison before being released on bail four years ago.
According to police officials, the suspect struggled with substance abuse and reportedly experienced intermittent bouts of mental instability. Inspector Sukanta Dutta of the Faridpur Kotwali Police Station confirmed that officers have initiated an operation to recover the weapon used in the commission of the crime, utilizing information provided by the suspect during interrogation.
