Man stabs wife to death inside Bangladesh hospital following domestic dispute

A 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by her husband inside a public hospital in Naogaon’s Dhamoirhat upazila on Monday morning, marking a violent conclusion to a protracted domestic dispute. The victim, Monira Khatun, succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Joypurhat General Hospital for emergency care.

According to local police and family accounts, the confrontation began early Monday at the victim’s family home in Amarpur village. Monira’s husband, Farhad Hossain, a rickshaw puller based in Dhaka, arrived at the residence at dawn and allegedly physically assaulted his wife. Seeking medical attention for her injuries, Monira went to the Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex at approximately 10:30 a.m., accompanied by her sister, Mohsina Begum.

The assailant followed his wife to the medical facility, where he confronted her again. According to witnesses, the argument escalated rapidly within the hospital premises, culminating in Farhad repeatedly stabbing Monira in the chest and abdomen with a knife.

Police confirmed that the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital instability, leading Monira to reside at her father’s home with their two children for some time. Following the attack, local authorities apprehended Farhad at the scene.

Dhamoirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mintu Rahman stated that the murder appears to have been driven by domestic grievances. The victim’s body has been transferred to the Naogaon General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A formal case has been filed by the victim’s father, and police are currently processing the suspect for transfer to judicial custody.
