July Revolutionary Alliance urges Prime Minister to expedite July Museum opening amid bureaucratic deadlock

The July Revolutionary Alliance, representing the families of those killed during the recent mass uprising, has formally requested urgent intervention from the Prime Minister to expedite the opening of the July Museum. Citing mounting bureaucratic obstruction, the group warned that administrative delays threaten to undermine the historical significance of the project.
During a press conference held Thursday at Shahbag, spokesperson Sabrina Afroze Sevanti, sister of the slain activist Saikat, expressed deep concern over a potential conspiracy to stall the museum’s launch. While the facility was originally scheduled to open to the public on August 5, activists allege that recent discussions led by Culture Secretary Kaniz Fatema regarding changes to recruitment policies have created unnecessary hurdles. The alliance questioned the legal authority of bureaucrats to alter recruitment procedures for an institution established by an act of Parliament.
The coalition asserted that these delays appear to be a deliberate strategy to postpone hiring by at least two months, potentially to facilitate nepotism and the appointment of unqualified personnel. According to the alliance, the July Museum requires specialized staff who are deeply familiar with its design and foundational objectives, rather than administrative appointees. They argued that sidelining the original contributors undermines the museum’s integrity and mission.
The group further alleged that certain factions within the administration are deliberately withholding budget allocations and maintenance support to render the facility ineffective. They contend that this obstructionism serves to deprive the public of accurate historical documentation and damages the international reputation of the project.
In a formal statement, the alliance outlined four critical demands: the immediate opening of the museum, the recruitment of subject-matter experts, the accountability of officials hindering the process, and the installation of high-tech security measures to protect the exhibited artifacts. The organizers warned that if these conditions are not met promptly, they will launch a nationwide movement to ensure the preservation and public recognition of the July uprising’s history.
