Government auditors have uncovered fresh evidence of financial irregularities at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’s housing project, revealing that equipment and generators for electrical substations were procured at prices nearly eight times higher than the government-approved rate. This development follows a high-profile corruption scandal involving the same “Green City” residential complex.

According to a report from the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the project’s expenditures on infrastructure within the housing zone show a massive discrepancy between market value and actual payments. While the standard government valuation for the necessary electrical equipment and generators was approximately 270 million taka, project officials authorized payments totaling 2.14 billion taka.

The audit highlights a significant departure from established procurement norms, with the finalized bills ballooning to roughly 213.88 million taka beyond the projected cost. This discovery marks another chapter in the scrutiny surrounding the Rooppur housing project, which previously drew widespread public condemnation over the inflated costs of interior furnishings and basic household appliances.
