Kishoreganj Pagla Mosque Collection Hits Record 15.9 Million Dollars

The historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj has set a new record after its donation boxes yielded nearly 160 million taka during a counting process that spanned 13 and a half hours on Saturday. The collection, which included foreign currency and a significant quantity of gold jewelry, was retrieved from 43 sacks accumulated over the past six months.
The counting began at 7:00 a.m. under the supervision of District Commissioner and Mosque Committee President Sohana Nasrin, alongside local administrative and police officials. By the time the process concluded at 8:30 p.m., authorities confirmed a total of 159,080,146 taka. The labor-intensive operation involved a team of more than 500 people, including 350 students from local Islamic seminaries, 130 staff members from Rupali Bank, and mosque committee representatives.
Situated on the banks of the Narsunda River, the Pagla Mosque is widely revered by people of all faiths, who travel from across the country to offer donations with the belief that their prayers will be answered. The site, which opens its collection boxes every four to six months, has seen a consistent increase in offerings. In December of last year, the mosque recorded approximately 117.8 million taka, a figure now surpassed by the current haul.
District Commissioner Sohana Nasrin stated that the funds are managed under the jurisdiction of the district administration. After accounting for the operational expenses of the mosque and its associated Islamic complex, the remaining funds are deposited into bank accounts. The proceeds contribute to the support of local mosques, madrasas, and orphanages, as well as providing financial aid to individuals suffering from complex medical conditions.
Plans are currently underway to transform the site into a modern, 10-story multipurpose Islamic complex, designed to reflect the architectural grandeur of contemporary Turkish mosques. The proposed facility will accommodate up to 50,000 worshippers, including designated space for 5,000 women. Beyond its religious functions, the complex will feature an orphanage, an educational library, a cafeteria, and an IT section.
To facilitate this expansion, the mosque committee has acquired additional land to complement its existing 5.5 acres. Authorities confirmed that the tender process for the construction of the complex is imminent, marking a significant step in the development of the landmark site under the supervision of the district administration.
