Measles Outbreak Claims Three More Children as Total Death Toll Reaches 642

Measles-like symptoms have claimed the lives of three more children in Dhaka over the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The report, covering the period from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, also recorded 1,110 new cases of children exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease nationwide.

These latest fatalities bring the total death toll since March 15 to 642. Of that total, 550 children died while presenting symptoms, while 92 succumbed following a clinical diagnosis of measles.

The DGHS data indicates that the viral outbreak has affected 83,139 children since mid-March. Of those, 68,056 required hospitalization. Public health officials noted that the majority of patients have successfully recovered, with 64,293 children discharged from medical facilities to date.

Current statistics show that 132 new cases of measles were confirmed in the last 24-hour cycle. During the same timeframe, hospitals admitted 1,057 patients, while 1,148 children were discharged after completing treatment.
