Bangladesh Deploys Ansar Forces to Bolster Border Security and Curb Transnational Crime

Bangladesh has expanded its border security strategy by deploying members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) to work alongside the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in frontline areas. The move aims to enhance surveillance, curb cross-border criminal activity, and establish a more robust security framework for local residents living in proximity to the frontier.

According to a formal statement issued by the Ansar and VDP headquarters on Monday, the collaboration is grounded in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2025. This agreement formalizes the integration of Ansar and VDP personnel into existing border management operations, creating a more cohesive and responsive security apparatus.

The deployment currently covers 11 districts across the country, where local Ansar and VDP members are stationed at the sub-district and police station levels. The affected districts include Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Joypurhat, Jashore, Jhenaidah, Satkhira, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Jamalpur, and Khagrachhari.

In addition to the personnel currently stationed in these areas, the force has placed Ansar Battalion members on high alert. These units are prepared to mobilize rapidly to provide surge capacity and support to border operations as needed, ensuring a sustainable and integrated response to any emerging security challenges along the border.
