An assistant land officer in Faridpur’s Boalmari upazila has been suspended following the emergence of a viral video that appears to show him accepting a bribe. The district administration took the disciplinary action against Imran Sheikh, an official at the Satair Union Land Office, just hours after the footage began circulating on social media on Sunday.
The 58-second video captures Sheikh seated at his office desk, instructing a service recipient to provide an original deed in exchange for expedited processing. In the recording, the official is seen counting ten 500-taka notes, totaling 5,000 taka, while assuring the individual that he would facilitate the application process to ensure the work is completed within two weeks. During the exchange, Sheikh is heard referencing his professional background and mentioning that he and the local Assistant Commissioner (Land) are both from the 40th BCS batch, though he noted his own status as a non-cadre officer.

While the exact date of the recording remains unconfirmed, local sources suggest the interaction may have occurred approximately one year ago. Speaking to Prothom Alo, Sheikh dismissed the allegations of bribery, asserting that the money was merely the repayment of a personal loan. He declined to identify the individual who purportedly returned the funds.
Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer S.M. Rakibul Hasan confirmed the suspension, stating that the district administration is conducting further inquiries into the incident. He emphasized that additional disciplinary measures would be pursued in accordance with official regulations as the investigation continues. Efforts to reach the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Boalmari for comment remained unsuccessful.
