Armed robbers shoot money exchange trader in broad daylight in Dhaka Motijheel

An armed robbery occurred in the heart of Dhaka’s Motijheel commercial district on Sunday afternoon, leaving a currency exchange businessman hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Md. Lokman, was targeted near the Janata Bank headquarters at approximately 3:00 p.m. while carrying a bag of currency.

Eyewitnesses reported that two suspects intercepted the businessman, leading to a brief struggle. During the altercation, one of the assailants opened fire, prompting onlookers to scatter in panic. The attackers subsequently seized the bag and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

According to a report by Prothom Alo, local law enforcement arrived shortly after the incident and transported the wounded man to Mugda Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment. While the exact amount of money stolen remains unconfirmed, police suspect the victim was being surveilled by the criminal group prior to the attack.

Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Motijheel Division, Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, stated that multiple motorcycles were spotted in the area during the commission of the crime. Authorities are currently reviewing high-resolution footage from surrounding CCTV cameras to identify the suspects and determine their escape route. Investigators are working to track the perpetrators, who remain at large.
