Pickup Truck Kills Student Returning From Coaching

A 13-year-old schoolboy was killed Friday morning after a speeding pickup van struck his bicycle in the Miarhat area of Karnaphuli Upazila, Chattogram, as he cycled home from coaching classes. Md. Sadikuzzaman, a seventh-grade student, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Sadikuzzaman, son of the late Jalal Uddin from Moulvi Bari in Barauthan Union, was a student at Guapanchak High School in Anwara Upazila’s Bairag Union.

According to local residents, Sadikuzzaman was returning home on his bicycle after attending coaching when a fast-moving pickup van, exiting a filling station in Miarhat, collided with him. Witnesses reported that the pickup van was traveling on the wrong side of the road at the time of the accident.

Seriously injured in the crash, Sadikuzzaman was rescued by local residents who immediately transported him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Doctors at the facility, however, pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Sajjad Khan, a member of Barauthan Union Parishad’s Ward No. 9, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that “a shadow of mourning has descended upon the area” following the news of Sadikuzzaman’s death.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Zakir Hossain of Karnaphuli Police Station stated that the victim’s family has applied to forgo a post-mortem examination, with discussions on the matter currently underway. Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahinur Alam confirmed that the driver of the pickup van fled the scene after the accident, though the vehicle has been seized. Efforts to apprehend the driver are ongoing.
