Solidarity of Jabi students in the movement against sexual violence in Jabi

The students of Jagannath University held a rally in solidarity with the movement against the attempted rape and murder of students and the constant sexual harassment of female students at Jahangirnagar University (JAB).
On Wednesday afternoon, the students held a solidarity rally at the university’s 1971 Genocide Sculpture Square. In the solidarity rally, the students raised slogans like, ‘Bullies roam the campus, what is the administration doing?’, ‘Wow, the administration is wonderful, watch out for the bullies’. In the rally, the students displayed festoons with various demands including stopping moral policing, implementation of anti-sexual harassment cell, resignation of Jabi Proctor Rashidul Alam in the name of decency.

Ivan Tahseeb, a student of the 2020-21 academic year of the University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, said, “Who will take responsibility for the security of the students who live in the halls of the educational institution?” What is the role of the proctor then? What is the meaning of security, law and order? Incidents of persecution are happening one after another. Two students were expelled in our campus yesterday in the name of decency.
Ivan Tahseeb also said, ‘Jhangirnagar University students are trying hard to ensure a safe campus. We, the students of Jagannath University, want to strongly express our solidarity with the six-point demand, including the resignation of the proctor of Jahangirnagar University, the demand for a safe campus.

Shamsul Alam Maruf, a student of the 2020-21 academic year of the law department of the university, said that a medieval incident has taken place in Jahangirnagar University and the administration has played a silent role there. Where their duty is to ensure the safety of the students, they are oppressing the students instead of doing so.
