The leaders of the parliament locked the principal’s office of a hall to demand the eight-point reform of Chittagong University. The incident took place at Alaol Hall, the student residence of the university, around 11 o’clock on Wednesday. Later at around 2 o’clock the lock was opened with the assurance of the principal.

Allegation of the leaders of the Alaol Hall Parliament is that they want to work in coordination with the hall administration to solve the problems of the resident students. However, they are not able to work effectively due to the non-cooperation of the hall principal. Despite wanting to discuss various issues several times, the principal is avoiding the meeting on various pretexts. Because of this, they were forced to lock it.

The leaders of the parliament said that they have locked the office on eight demands. These are, purchase of necessary furniture for dining, opening of canteen, special arrangements for resident students staying in hall on Eid, establishment of medicine corner, addition of new books in library, installation of CCTV cameras in hall, installation of water filter and renovation of hall rooms.

If asked, Alaol is the general secretary of the parliament. Noor Nabi Hasan said, we welcomed him after taking charge as the principal of the new hall. I tried to cooperate. But he is not interested in sitting down and discussing with the parliament. There are many small and big problems, about which we want to talk to him again and again. But I did not get a chance to sit with him despite trying many times. Each time he evaded the matter on various pretexts.

Hall Sangsad’s Communications and Housing Affairs Secretary Main Hanjala said, “When it rains in the rooms of the hall, water comes inside. Various types of furniture are also required for rooms and canteens. I have informed the principal of these demands before, but I did not get a solution.

On May 5, Professor Jamalul Akbar Chowdhury of the Department of History officially took over as the Principal. Regarding the complaint, he told Prothom Alo that since taking charge, I have held regular meetings with parliament and related persons. There were some managerial errors during the previous administration, we are trying to resolve them. I tried to solve the problem by sitting in the hall till 4.50 pm last day. Efforts are being made to solve the rest of the problems.
