Two more children died of measles symptoms at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal on Monday night. So far this year, 37 children have died of measles in Barisal division. Out of these 3 children were diagnosed with measles and the remaining 34 children died with measles symptoms.

The two children who died last night are Jihad (2) son of Sohag Khan of Durgapur area of ​​Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali and Md of North Char Aicha village of Bhola Charfashan. Hasan’s daughter Habiba (7 months).

Brigadier General AKM Moshiul Munir, director of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said two children were admitted to the hospital with symptoms of measles. They later died of severe pneumonia.

According to the hospital authorities, so far 2 thousand 286 children have been admitted to this hospital with symptoms of measles. 52 children have been admitted to this hospital with symptoms of measles in the last 24 hours from 8 am yesterday to 8 am today. Among them, 198 children are currently under treatment.

Barisal divisional health director’s office sources said that 37 children have died till date due to symptoms and diagnosis of measles in government hospital of Barisal division. Apart from this, in the last 24 hours, 147 children have come to the hospital with symptoms of measles in Barisal division. So far the number of suspected measles patients in Barisal division is 5 thousand 950. Measles was detected in 175 children.

According to the district wise data, Patuakhali has the highest number of patients coming to the hospital. 1 thousand 288 children have been admitted to hospital with measles symptoms in this district. Apart from this, 458 children in Bhola, 367 in Barishal, 531 in Barguna, 337 in Pirojpur and 255 in Jhalkathi have come to the hospital.

Mohammad Lokman Hakim, Acting Director of Barisal Divisional Health Department, said, ‘Measles has taken a serious form in this department since March. It still continues. However, the vaccination program is ongoing. Hopefully, this will bring the measles under control. Due to the pressure of the patients, the doctors are struggling. There is no room in the hospital. Still there is no shortage of treatment. We are trying to ensure proper treatment.’
