Three people died due to lightning in two districts

Three people died due to lightning in Jamalpur and Netrakona. Among them, one died in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, one in Madarganj Upazila and one in Kendua Upazila of Netrokona. These incidents took place between noon and afternoon on Friday.

Farooq Ahmed (37), a farmer of Paschim Aranghati village of Mesta Union of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, died due to lightning. He died on the spot due to a sudden lightning strike while picking hay from the yard of his house during the rain on Friday afternoon. At that time, his father Afsar Ali, who was nearby, was injured. Later he was rescued and admitted to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital.

Apart from this, Majnu Mia (25) of Jorkhali village of Motherganj upazila died due to lightning. He was a member of Motherganj Upazila Chhatra Shakti.

According to the family, Majnu Mia was seriously injured by lightning while working in the yard during the rain in the afternoon. The family members rushed him to a local village doctor who declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motherganj Police Station Snehashis Roy said, “I have received news of the death of a person from Motherganj due to lightning.” Police have been dispatched to the scene. Burial of the body has been allowed as there is no complaint from the family.

A man named Enamul Haque (25) died after being struck by lightning while fishing from a reservoir at Kendua in Netrakona. The incident took place on Friday afternoon in Maska Hawar of the upazila.

According to local residents and upazila administration sources, Enamul went fishing in Maska Haor around 3 pm. At that time, when it started raining, his body was burnt by lightning. The local people rescued him and took him to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead.

Kendua Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Rifatul Islam said that the people of the office were sent to the spot after receiving the news. According to the rules, the family of the deceased youth will be given financial assistance of 20,000 taka from the administration.

According to sources from the disaster and relief wing of the Netrakona District Commissioner’s office, eight people have died in different parts of the district due to lightning this year.
