Actress Pooja Cheri’s Father Sent to Jail Over Alleged Tk 13.2 Crore Fraud in Film Production Case

A court has sent Debu Prasad Roy, father of popular actress Pooja Chery, to jail in a case filed at the Cantonment Police Station in the capital over allegations of embezzling around Tk 13.2 crore in the name of film production.

Although the court issued the order on April 18, the matter became public on Saturday (April 25), drawing widespread attention after the issue surfaced in the media.

According to the case statement, complainant Mizanur Rahman alleges that Debu Prasad Roy took money in several phases claiming investment in a film production business. On September 15, 2019, he first took Tk 55 lakh. Later, another Tk 50 lakh was taken under similar assurances. On May 15, 2024, he allegedly received an additional Tk 6 crore through stamp agreements. Apart from this, around Tk 1.02 crore was reportedly transferred via mobile banking at different times. The complaint also states that more money was taken on March 30 this year upon request.

In total, the complainant claims that Tk 13 crore 20 lakh 10 thousand 200 was embezzled. Despite repeated demands, the money was not returned. The complainant further alleges that when repayment was sought, various excuses were given and at times threats were issued.

Following legal proceedings, the court ordered Debu Prasad Roy to be sent to jail. The case is currently under investigation at the Cantonment Police Station, and authorities say the final outcome will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Actress Pooja Chery has responded to the matter, distancing herself from the allegations. She said she has no involvement in the case and has no detailed information about it, adding that the legal process is ongoing and the court will decide the matter.
