Two sisters drown in pond in Lohagara upazila of Chittagong

Two sisters drowned in a pond in Lohagara Upazila of Chittagong on Saturday evening, local authorities confirmed. The bodies of 11-year-old Amena Akter and 10-year-old Ayesha Begum were recovered from a pond located near the Bangla Bazar Government Primary School in West Kalauzan.

The victims were the daughters of Mohammad Yunus, a resident of the Farenga area in Chunati Union. Yunus currently works at a religious school in Kalauzan, where the family has been living in a rented residence.

Khorshed Alam, acting chairman of the Kalauzan Union Parishad, confirmed the incident and stated that neither of the girls knew how to swim. He explained that the sisters went to the pond near their home to bathe and subsequently drowned.

According to Alam, the family began searching for the girls after they failed to return home for an extended period. A local individual discovered the children submerged in the pond and pulled their unconscious bodies from the water. Despite being rushed to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, they were declared dead upon arrival by the attending emergency physician.
