Demotion of a teacher of Rajshahi University, exemption from all work for 5 years

Sujan Sen, Associate Professor of Painting, Oriental Art and Printmaking, Rajshahi University, has been suspended from all academic and administrative activities for five years. Along with that, he has been demoted from the post of associate professor to the post of assistant professor. He will not get any increment for five years.
This decision was taken in the 548th meeting of the highest policy-making forum syndicate of the university last Thursday evening due to allegations of financial scam, incompetence and arbitrariness.
On Monday, University Registrar (Acting) Professor Iftikharul Alam Masood confirmed this information to Prothom Alo.
Iftikharul Alam Masood said, after five years, Sujan Sen will be eligible to join the work as an assistant professor. After another four years he can apply for promotion to the post of Associate Professor. In other words, he has been delayed by a total of 9 years in terms of promotion.
The students declared Sujan Sen undesirable in the department on 25 August 2024 on charges of favoritism, financial scam, incompetence and arbitrariness. Later, on September 8, they submitted a written complaint to the vice-chancellor, student advisor and department president, attaching evidence of irregularities and corruption.
Sujan Sen was temporarily suspended from the department’s academic activities until the investigation of these allegations was resolved at the department’s emergency academic meeting on September 9. Later on September 18, a committee was formed by the university administration. After the investigation, the committee gave a report citing his behavior as moral lapse.
Later, another inquiry committee convened by former Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Main Uddin was formed to take legal action against Sujan Sen. Punitive action was taken against him in the syndicate meeting last Thursday based on the recommendation of the investigation committee.
