Police Arrest Man with IEDs in Dhaka Linked to Counter-Terrorism Probe

Police arrested a man named Jewel in the Sarulia area of Demra in the capital on Sunday, seizing two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from his possession. The operation was conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and local Demra police following a tip-off.
An official from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit stated that the arrest is linked to a recent attack on police personnel at the Janapath intersection in Jatrabari. Authorities subsequently recovered the two explosives during the raid.
Demra Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abul Hasanat Khandaker confirmed that police received intelligence regarding the suspect around 5:00 p.m. Following the arrest, the CTTC bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the scene, where they successfully neutralized the devices at approximately 9:00 p.m.
This operation follows a series of recent security actions targeting suspected militants. On Tuesday, the CTTC arrested a man identified as Mohammad Arif in Hemayetpur, Savar. Police identified Arif as a member of the militant group Neo-JMB. Acting on information provided by Arif, authorities raided a three-story building in Savar, recovering 11 pipe bombs and a significant quantity of bomb-making materials.
The following morning, law enforcement authorities recovered a pressure cooker bomb from the premises of a mosque in the Sadhapur area of Savar, which was also subsequently neutralized. Police indicated that Sunday’s operation in Demra is a direct continuation of these ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
