Mentally impaired woman reunited with family in Nilphamari after being found in Rajbari

A 66-year-old woman suffering from mental health issues, who had been missing for 17 days, was reunited with her family on Saturday night following a coordinated effort by police and hospital authorities in Rajbari.
Jobeda Khatun, a resident of Warechipara in Ward 9 of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila and the wife of Ziar Uddin Rahman, went missing after leaving her home in Nilphamari. Her family had filed a general diary with the local police and had been searching for her extensively.
The breakthrough came after Khatun was struck by a battery-operated three-wheeler while walking in front of the Rajbari municipal office last Thursday. Local residents and the driver of the vehicle assisted police in transporting her to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where she was admitted to the female surgery ward for treatment, including stitches for a facial injury. Due to her inability to communicate and her mental health condition, her identity remained unknown to medical staff.
Acting on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team from Faridpur arrived in Rajbari on Saturday morning to assist in the identification process. By scanning her fingerprints and matching them with the national identity database, investigators were able to trace her residence in Nilphamari and contact her relatives using the phone number registered to her identity card.
Uttam Kumar Ghosh, officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, confirmed that police and the driver of the vehicle had ensured she received necessary medical care and medication while they worked to locate her family.
Khatun’s son, Shahinur Rahman, who traveled from Savar to collect his mother, explained that she had been struggling with mental health complications since suffering a stroke several months ago. He expressed his relief at recovering his mother, noting that she had left their home unnoticed more than two weeks ago. Khatun was officially released into her son’s custody at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
