Fugitive Criminal Raihan Taunts Police and Threatens Violence on Facebook Following Failed Arrest Attempt

CHITTAGONG — A notorious fugitive criminal, Mohammad Raihan, who narrowly evaded arrest by police three weeks ago, has resurfaced on social media to issue fresh threats against law enforcement and rival factions. Despite remaining at large, Raihan posted a provocative message on Facebook declaring that his associates are currently incarcerated and vowing that his new network will prove more dangerous than their predecessors.
Raihan, 35, is a key operative in an organized criminal network controlled by Sajjad Ali, a fugitive kingpin operating from abroad. Local authorities identify Raihan as a primary enforcer for the syndicate, allegedly responsible for extortion campaigns targeting business owners and homeowners in the Chittagong region. He is also linked to multiple incidents of targeted gunfire against those who refused to comply with his financial demands.
Law enforcement officials describe Raihan as having a limited formal education, noting that he formerly worked as a CNG-run autorickshaw driver. Police investigations suggest he previously operated under the guise of an illicit liquor trader. His involvement in organized crime deepened following a meeting with another notorious operative, Sajjad Hossain—also known as Chhoto Sajjad—while both were imprisoned on attempted murder charges. Following his release on bail after August 5, 2024, Raihan allegedly escalated his activities and is currently believed to be managing the syndicate’s arms cache while the senior leadership remains behind bars.
The police attempt to apprehend Raihan occurred on July 29, during a nationwide operation that led to the arrest of another syndicate member, Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, in Jessore. While police conducted a simultaneous raid in Noakhali to capture Raihan, he managed to escape by leaping from a rooftop.
Following the failed capture, Chittagong District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Masud Alam stated that officers had nearly apprehended the suspect, noting that Raihan had experienced a brush with capture. In response to that statement, Raihan posted a defiant retort on social media on August 3, mocking the police and thanking local residents in Noakhali for facilitating his escape.
Superintendent Masud Alam addressed the suspect’s latest social media activity on Thursday, dismissing the threats as the desperate rhetoric of a fugitive. He confirmed that police operations to track down Raihan remain ongoing and urged the public not to be intimidated by the suspect’s online warnings.
