Four killed and five injured in head-on collision between bus and passenger vehicle in Coxs Bazar

Four people were killed and five others sustained critical injuries in a head-on collision between a passenger minibus and an air-conditioned bus in the Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. in front of the Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in the Khutakhali Nayapara area. According to police and local witnesses, the passenger minibus, which was traveling from Eidgaon toward Chakaria, collided with an oncoming Lal-Sabuj Paribahan bus. The force of the impact caused the roof of the minibus to detach, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.
The victims were identified as 25-year-old Jashim Uddin, son of the late Motiur Rahman from the Segunbagicha area of Khutakhali; 28-year-old Md. Rafiq, son of the late Abul Kashem from West Gozaria; 27-year-old Md. Shahed, son of the late Monjur Alam from Phulchhari Shiyapara; and 25-year-old Md. Ziabul Haque, son of Aminul Haque from the Natun Office area of Khutakhali.
Local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the collision to rescue the nine passengers trapped inside the wreckage. The victims were transported to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital and the Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital. Three individuals succumbed to their injuries at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, while one died at the Malumghat facility.
The five survivors—Sarwar, 19, and his father Syed Alam, 50, both from Napitkhali; Ziabul Haque, 40, of the Natun Office area; Delwar Hossain, 35, of Medhakacchapia; and Syed Karim, 30, of Teknaf—remain hospitalized. Sarwar, Syed Alam, Ziabul Haque, and Delwar Hossain are undergoing treatment at Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital, while Syed Karim is being treated at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
The collision caused significant traffic disruption, halting movement on the highway for at least an hour while rescue operations were conducted and the debris was cleared.
Sub-Inspector Md. Shamsuzzaman of the Malumghat Highway Police Station confirmed that both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded. Authorities are currently processing the release of the victims’ remains to their respective families.
